Night Train is a new locally based quartet lead by saxophonist Tim Hill and this time we have a fresh jazz funk set from the band. The band play modern jazz and grooves from bebop to Marvin Gaye and features some of Somerset’s finest young players including guitarist Ben Modley, bass player Sean Davies and drummer Ian Evans.
Night Train draw on a wide variety of influences from funk, Latin, gospel to free jazz to create an exciting, rhythmic and accessible music for head, feet and heart.
Tim Hill is a musician and composer who has lived in Somerset for nearly ten years. He has been musical director for companies like Welfare State International, Cirque Bijou, Liverpool Lantern Company and Salisbury Festival and many others. He runs the bands Tongues of Fire, the community band, the Big Noise and the outdoor performance group Rag and Bone.
As a member of the Mellstock band he plays, makes and researches period wind instruments recreating and researching the English rural music making of the 18th and 19th centuries and appearing in many tv and film productions including the classic BBC Pride and Prejudice.
Tim is also a jazz musician, improviser and experimental musician, playing in a wide variety of settings since the 1980s with such musicians as Mike Cooper, Derek Bailey, Steve Noble and Max Eastley. He is a member of the band Predicate run by guitarist Alex Ward, their second album ‘Nails’ was just released on the avant-garde French label Gaffer records www.gafferrecords.com

Sean Davie studied music at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, My primary instrumental teachers during that time were Steve Berry and Tim Pike. He now live back in his native Somerset where he teaches, performs and records.
