Fire River Poets – Poetry competition winners’ evening Thursday 6 April 2017
The April event in our calendar this year will be devoted to a celebration of the winners of the Fire River Poets poetry competition 2016-17 and we are pleased to announce that all three winners will be attending together with some of the commended poets. All those attending will have the opportunity to read their winning/commended poem and a selection of their other poems. In addition, the commended poems of those unable to attend will be read on their behalf by members of Fire River Poets. Chairman of Fire River Poets, John Stuart, said “These events are a joy to witness. There are always surprises and the variety of technique and approach is is amazing and encouraging”.
Judge Alison Brackenbury (http://www.alisonbrackenbury.co.uk/) will also be present and will give her report to the meeting. She will also give a short reading herself. (Those with a good memory will recall that she read for us in May 2013 to great acclaim.)
The winning and commended poems were officially announced earlier in the year and can be viewed on our website (www.fireriverpoets.org.uk). As the programme of the evening will be a full one, it will unfortunately not be possible to offer open mic slots for this once in the year. Doors open at 7.30 pm and the programme will begin at 8.00 pm. Cost £5.00. Entry should be paid for on the door. Venue enquiries to 01823 337477.
