'The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson' Film Screening and Talk by Director Julien Temple Sunday 6th Dec
An evening with the award winning director Julien Temple with a special screening of his smash hit new film… ‘The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson’ Sunday 6th Dec 6-9pm.
Julien Temple, born in London in 1953, attended Kings College Cambridge and studied at the National Film School Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.
In 1976 his friendship with The Sex Pistols led to his first film Sex Pistols Number 1. Temple then directed The Great Rock And Roll Swindle, a stylised fictional account of the Sex Pistols from the viewpoint of their manager, Malcolm McLaren. The film launched Temple into a career working with such artists as Rolling Stones, David Bowie and the Kinks.
In 1981 he directed The Comic Strip featuring alternative comedians, most famously Jennifer Saunders, Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson and Peter Richardson. Since these early films Julien has produced and directed a wide range of successful films such as ‘Glastonbury’ and London – The Modern Babylon, backed by the BFI and BBC. He continues to create inspiring films with his unique take on documenting music and social history.
His latest film portrays Wilko Johnson’s unique view on life, his energetic and electrifying blues, and his amazing escape from pancreatic cancer diagnosed by doctors as terminal in 2012.
