Come and enjoy a big band jazz session before your Sunday lunch! The cafe is open for the duration for hot and cold drinks.
The Sunday Big Band is back… Following on from last winter’s hugely successful experiment…
Over the 6 months from November to next April, on the 3rd Sunday of the month, there is going to be one set from a 17 piece big band at lunchtime. Each month will be a different theme with different tunes.
January 20th is the third instalment in a six month residency at CICCIC. Each month the Sunday Big Band is aiming to highlight a different style of Big Band music. Without repeating any tunes…
January’s theme is Swing. The SBB played ‘Cool and Instrumental’ in November and ‘Feeling Good at Christmas’ and now ‘Swing’s the Thing’.
The ‘Swing era’ was booted into overdrive by Benny Goodman in the 1930’s. The Sunday Big Band will be playing ‘King Porter Stomp’ – a tune BG made famous at that time. And right now in 2019 Michael Buble goes from strength to strength singing contemporary tunes like ‘Peroxide Swing’ with a big band roaring behind him.
The SBB will also play things like ‘Woodchoppers ball’ and ‘Sway’.
The brilliant Chris Franks will sing ‘Come fly with me’ (originally a huge hit for Frank Sinatra and Count Basie). Chris will also sing Sinatra’s version of ‘You are the sunshine of my life’.
There should be plenty of space for the soloists to tell you their stories.
And probably a few surprises too- Hey that’s Jazz!
Tap your foot. Bring the kids. Whatever. Get your ticket early because the last one sold out…
Big Band Sundays
CICCIC have only got themselves a Big Band residency! How many places can you say that about?
The Sunday Big Band is a collaboration between different Big Band musicians. There is a jazz tradition of ‘workshopping’ tunes in public, but we are going to save you the workshopping and just bring you the good stuff.
3rd Sunday of the month. Doors open 12pm. Band on from 12.15- 1.15. £5
