An exhibition of artworks celebrating the landscape created by the following artists : Jenny Graham, Leo Davey, Adam Grose, Keith Crocker. Liz Gregory and Fritz Duffy .

The artists share their unique perspectives on the spaces and environments around them, opening up various visual dialogues through their paintings and mixed media compositions. They explore colour, form, tone and texture using a wide range of mediums and techniques to visually capture and convey their emotional response to views, spaces and places.

This exhibition offers a glimpse of an artists unique take on the world and asks questions about our relationship with the landscape and the conversations it creates. Each image captures the magic and beauty of our surroundings. A visual treat.

Artists:

Jenny Graham My work, in whatever media,  always reflects the world around me. Sometimes literally and at other times in a more interpretive or abstract manner. I work in a variety of media  from oil to watercolour and printmaking  and love to experiment with various techniques and paint processes. Since moving to Watchet in West Somerset I have been inspired by the coastline, its colours and changing light on the rocks and water. I have a BFA in Fine Art from the Cooper Union Art school in  New York  and an MA in Printmaking from the University of the West of England in Bristol. I am a member of the RWA Artist Network, Somerset Printmakers and Albatross  Print  Studio. https://www.jennygrahamartist.co.uk/ 

Leo Davey Ever since I can remember I have painted. I love the processes, the endless possibilities, the accidents and the planning.  Over the years I have developed a way of working that breaks all traditional watercolour teachings. First, I lay down black Indian ink in various dilutions to describe a subject’s form; I then add layers of transparent watercolour washes over the top and then punctuate that surface with a visual language of marks and lines in various media. Every painting is an experiment and every final solution is achieved via a different journey. Although landscape makes up a large part of my output, subjects vary enormously but are all linked by an attention to detail and focus on dramatic light and perceived space. Adam Grose My art practice blurs past and present moments of life to create a tapestry of imagery exploring historical and contemporary moments. Lines and colours merge to form a visual narrative that unfolds with each viewing.  My prints and paintings merge urban and rural scenes, capturing glimpses that embrace the concept of entropy and fragility.  Through masking, scrawling and stripping back, I invite the viewer to re-explore ideas about ‘figurative art and figurativism’ through these layers of destruction and obscuration. I lead a variety of art workshops based on drawing, painting and printmaking, exploring similar themes grounded in observation and drawing at: CICCIC (Print Workshops); Arts Hub (Creative Methodologies); Bridgwater and Taunton College (CICCIC); GoCreate (Home Education); TYCA; Create, Chat & Eat (Youth Art Club) and various private art groups.  More details can be found on his website: www.rwa.org.uk/blogs/artists/adam-grose

Keith Crocker Originally from Plymouth, the source of Keith’s work is mainly landscape, in particular observation but  also memory and experiences. He now lives in Somerset and works from his studio.  Keith works intuitively to try to find a balance between various elements of texture, movement and geometry found within the landscape. Some can be representational although often he reflects on the emotional response to the natural environment which can lead into abstraction. Ranging from textures on rocks, the elements and how light reflects on water are some of the themes in his paintings. https://www.instagram.com/circles_forever/

Liz Gregory The Blackdown Hills are my home and I have been drawing and responding to them for 45 years. Influenced originally by impressionism, I would attempt to capture the light and shapes in front of me, but as time progressed I have become increasingly interested in what it actually feels and looks like to walk through the landscape: viewpoints changing constantly, the noises I hear, even the thoughts I have. I enjoy teaching, and through devising ways for my students to get excited by art, have experimented with techniques which have influenced the way I make my own work. For example, simplifying complicated objects to bold shapes, reducing tones to just three and using the element of chance. None of this is new thinking, but it has helped me to keep being interested and surprised by what I produce. I have exhibited throughout the South West (RWA, Brewhouse, Beehive, Brick Workshop and Glastonbury Festival) and also at Mall Galleries in London.  https://www.instagram.com/lizgregoryartist/

Fritz Duffy My practice had always been studio based up to 2016, but I was invited with a number of artists to work outdoors in the Malvern Hills and also Dungeness. We made several visits, hiring houses and individually exploring and recording aspects of the surrounding landscapes. I found this quite difficult at first as all I could see was ‘Constable’, but in time I managed to find my own language to express my feelings and emotions towards the differing landscapes. Studied at Isleworth Polytechnic, Hornsey College of Art and Goldsmiths College of Art between 1968 – 1975.
