7.30pm – 10.00pm. £5.
Do you play an instrument or sing? Do you create music? Do you have song or rift that you love but unsure where it should lead to? Or do you want to simply jam with other musicians?
If so then CICCIC’s Freewheeling Jam Sessions (mainly soul, funk, Latin, jazz and blues) are for players and singers to interact with other players and make music in a freewheeling environment, without having to be concerned about pleasing an audience. Jams may focus on a particular style of music one week and help build a song that someone has bought to the table another week, each session will be organic and loose. But as you can imagine these sessions do need some direction and that’s why you will under the skills and direction of Jam Boss Paul Lawrence Francis.
Paul is a well-established and seasoned electric & upright bassist & backing vocalist and has worked with Paul Weller, London Beat, Ian Hunter, Omar, Chris Farlow, James Taylor Quartet to name a few, and with such professional experience he welcomes all levels of musicians and singers to join these jam sessions.
The jam boss may ask you to briefly audition to show that you can play; as it’s important that a certain skill level compliments the jam session. Unskilled playing can often disrupt jam sessions so be sure you know what you are doing.
Please note that if there are a few jam session players in the room you may be asked to sit out on some of the songs to allow other players to be involved. Players must bring their own instruments.
We ask for a small fee of £5 to help pay for rent, electricity etc. and the bar/café will be open to serve refreshments. Please do not bring drinks in. Your friends or other audiences are allowed to sit in for the same fee of £5 and ideal if you want to see these sessions first before you commit to joining in.
At the end of six months jam session players have the option of being offered a gig at CICCIC.
This is a pay-on-the-door submission.
