Through the year you will develop the skills and identify your focus, such as Graphic Design, Fine Art, Photography, Architecture or Textiles. This is a supportive and stimulating environment to grow and prepare for further studies in art and design.
Art & Design Course in Detail
Focus on identifying individual pathway, building a portfolio and developing research skills.
Studio work focusing on individual specalism (i.e. Fine Art, Photography, Graphics, Textiles etc.) with growing independence; preparation for interviews and writing skills.
Writing a brief and, with the support of teachers, creating a body of work to be celebrated in an end of year exhibition and presentation.
|Theme: Looking and Beyond
Experimentation with media and developing observational skills leading to informed abstraction.
|Theme: Human and Nature
Use your choice of medium and technique to explore the theme of Human and Nature.
|Final Major Project
Create a body of work to your own brief that is presented and celebrated in a public exhibition.
The course engages with the fabric of Taunton from the architecture, such as the twelfth century castle, Art Deco buildings or the Green Cathedral to local organizations such as the Somerset Wildlife Trust and the Heritage Centre.

Your Professional Tutors
Debbi Sutton is a practicing artist and skilled educator with 18 years experience teaching Art and Design at Further and Higher Education levels in New York and the UK; an experienced Access teacher, she excels at working with students from diverse backgrounds. Sutton has a Bachelor of Fine Art from Oxford University and a Master of Fine Art from Hunter College, New York. In 1997, the United States of America recognized Sutton as an “Alien of Extraordinary Ability”.
Richard Holt is a 3 D Design specialist and director of the Creative Innovation Centre CIC which supports and promotes the development of the creative sector locally. He is a Fellow of Creative Enterprise through the Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Plymouth University and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He has extensive knowledge in Arts and Design training, programme design, delivery, management, quality assurance, accreditation and 25 years management experience in Arts and design training.
Chris Dart is a very experienced regional artist and talented tutor. His ability and skills as a tutor to make people feel comfortable and at the same time develop their confidence to pursue their independent creative journeys have been enjoyed by hundreds of students across the South West.
Chris likes to develop a close working relationship with all his students so they feel empowered to break through their creative barriers to explore new horizons and unlock hidden dimensions within their work and creative applications.
