Arts and austerity – A debate ‘Can the arts remain part of civil society without public subsidy?’
As austerity bites ever harder and public sector funding for the arts is reduced both centrally and locally The Dartington Trust www.dartington.org and the RSA Fellowship www.thersa.org in the South West Region have come together to host a series of debates addressing the question ‘Can the arts remain part of civil society without public subsidy?’
The series will culminate in an action workshop at Dartington on the afternoon of 28th September where the principal themes and issues raised across the region will be explored in more detail with a view to initiating an RSA/Dartington collaborative project related to the arts.
The Taunton debate will be held at 7pm Monday 9th September at Creative Innovation Centre CIC, Memorial Hall, Paul Street, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 3PF. The debate panel will be internationally recognised local artist Neil Musson, Arts Council local relationship manager Caroline Corfe, a representative from the local authority and a representative from Dartington arts.
