Documentary Film: Making The Cut (2014) & Discussion with Film Makers – Friday June 5th
Making The Cut (2014) is a 40 minute documentary that aims to explore the effects of the loss of artistic infrastructure in the UK with a particular emphasis on regional theatres and their local, national and international communities of artists and audiences. The film features a wide range of contributors from local performers to artistic directors, playwrights and lecturers.
The project was inspired when two friends (Emma Holbrook and Susannah Mo) met by chance at the closure of their local theatre, (The Brewhouse) in Taunton Somerset. They began to discuss the prospect of producing a short project with the aim to explore the knock on effects resulting from the loss of artistic infrastructure, especially in the more regional parts of the country.
The South West has like many other parts of the United Kingdom, experienced a great loss of venues, establishments and buildingless enterprises that have helped to support a vast range of projects, groups and individuals in both professional and non – professional capacities. Making The Cut aims to explore just some of the issues now facing the regional arts that have wider implications in regards to the preservation of our cultural heritage and the timeless need to express and share our experiences through art and performance.
After showing of the film there will be a discussion with the film makers.
