Moonlight Saving Time – Award Winning Jazz Quintet to Sooth the Mind and Inspire Your Imagination
Creative Innovation Centre CIC is proud to host the National award winning jazz quintet ‘Moonlight Saving Time’. Winners of the 2013 Emerging Excellence award from the Musicians Benevolent Fund and recently voted ‘Best Newcomers’ at Marlborough Jazz festival, Moonlight Saving Time is a contemporary jazz quintet who combine bold improvisation with atmospheric grooves and world rhythms to create a unique sound in contemporary jazz.
Led by vocalist Emily Wright (“terrifically talented” – The Telegraph) and featuring acclaimed trumpeter Nick Malcolm the band features five, up-and-coming jazz musicians who are committed to creating authentic, exciting music and who all play an equal role in defining the overall sound of the band.
With influences ranging from Chick Corea to Massive Attack, the band offer a strikingly fresh take on established jazz repertoire, as well as thoughtful and melodic original compositions. Moonlight Saving Time’s original music was recently featured by Jez Nelson on BBC Radio 3’s “Jazz on 3” and Gilles Peterson’s BBC 6 Music having been selected by BBC Introducing to play a live show at Band on the Wall as part of Manchester Jazz festival.
With cinematic, evocative arrangements drifting seamlessly into moments of free improvisation, and unusual time signatures flowing into hip hop and latin grooves, Moonlight Saving Time defy the conventions of a singer-led jazz band, with their unique approach and novel sound.
The band have been receiving great critical acclaim for performances throughout the UK including Manchester, Brecon, Cheltenham and Oxford jazz festivals, and recently played a sold-out show at London’s Pizza Express Jazz Club.
