Continuing the 2015 season of poetry events, Fire River Poets are delighted to welcome Alwyn Marriage as our guest poet for the reading on Thursday 2 June 2016. Chairman of Fire River Poets, John Stuart, said “Alwyn is an active and well known figure across Europe as well as the UK and it is a great pleasure to welcome her to Taunton.”
Alwyn works as a poet, lecturer and writer, and is Managing Editor of the publishing house, Oversteps Books (http://www.overstepsbooks.com/). She is also a Research Fellow in the School of English and Languages of the University of Surrey.
She is author or editor of eight books; her poetry, articles and reviews are published widely in newspapers, magazines and journals; and she has recently started writing novels. She gives poetry readings all over Britain and abroad, accepts commissions and is available for workshops and residencies.
Her past career includes being a university Philosophy lecturer, Editor of a journal, and Chief Executive of two international literacy and literature NGOs.
Members of Fire River Poets will also be reading during the evening and, as John is always at pains to point out “We always provide a platform for poets of all ages and levels of experience, so there will as usual be an open mic session during the evening for any poet who would like to come along and read. Poets who would like to take advantage of this opportunity should apply through the Contact Us page on the Fire River Poets website www.fireriverpoets.org.uk.”
The reading begins at 8.00 pm and costs £5.00. Entry should be paid for on the door. Venue enquiries to 01823 337477.
Events continue to be held at the Creative Innovation Centre, Memorial Hall, Paul Street, Taunton (http://www.creativeinnovationcentre.co.uk/how-to-find-us/).
