More Pressing Matters – Exhibition
An exhibition of prints by 13 Somerset Printmakers
11 September – 9 October. 9.30 –12.30 Monday to Friday; 9.30 – 12.30 Saturday
The Creative Innovation Centre Taunton is pleased to host an exciting exhibition of prints by twelve members of Somerset Printmakers which represent the top artists working in this genre in Somerset.
Planned to coincide with Somerset Art Weeks, this exhibition will offer a welcome alternative to those who prefer a curated exhibition to artists’ open studios.
Before, during and after Somerset Art Week 2014, the work of 13 printmakers will be on show at the CICCIC in central Taunton in an exhibition called “More Pressing Matters”. The SOMERSET PRINTMAKERS have made a strong comeback in 2014 and this show is their third major group exhibition in Somerset this year.
The group was set up in 1998 by 17 Somerset artists who worked in various different printmaking techniques and who wanted to exhibit their prints together. The membership has remained constant over the years with many of the founder members still living in Somerset and still making fabulous contemporary woodcuts, etchings, monoprints and collagraphs. Some group members have exhibited recently at the RWA in Bristol and in London at the RA and the Mall Galleries, but the Somerset exhibition bonanza of 2014 has been a welcome opportunity to work together and to tell their “neighbours” more about themselves and their prints.
As group member Jenny Graham says:
“Artists are usually pretty solitary, so working with other artists gives you a chance to bounce ideas around. And exhibition deadlines really focus the mind and make you work harder! ”
The Somerset Printmakers will be exhibiting a collection of original prints at the CICCIC gallery in Taunton from 11 September to 9October. For more details, go to www.somersetprintmakers.co.uk
