Printmaking Classes – Spring term 8th Jan  – 19th March Thursdays 9.30-12.30pm at the ArtsHub ( Half term 19th Feb )

Explore print techniques and processes and develop an innovative portfolio of prints. Through various techniques, developed by tutor Adam Grose’s continual experimentation, we will explore various print processes, combining and innovating via the following short course:

Over the 12-week period we will explore a few processes within the printmaking world exploring some alternative methods for transferring image to surface.

All Things Dry-Point (Intaglio Printing)

The first block of 6 weeks will explore dry-point printing, exploring ways of making marks on a surface geared towards intaglio.

Intaglio mark-making involves an incised line that will hold ink, and includes using materials like: Environ- mount card; Acrylic; Aluminium, which is then ready to transfer onto another surface, developing a versatile set of intaglio skills.  You will also explore transferring onto various surfaces including: Japanese/ Chinese paper; Chine Colle and Plaster.

All Things Relief (Lino & Woodcut)

During this six week block you will have the opportunity to explore lino or woodcut printing.  This can either be as a block printing, reduction or jigsaw printmaking.  The beauty of exploring these forms of printmaking is the opportunity to expand upon your skills set, investigating forms of lino and woodcut printmaking you might not have explored before.

The hands-on experience with both traditional printing presses and manual registration techniques fosters technical proficiency essential for contemporary printmakers. By blending experimental processes with classic methods, this course equips participants for artistic innovation in printmaking: an invaluable program for leisure and experienced artists of all skills sets, seeking growth within print media.

Some materials will be provided.  However, if you would like to print larger than A5 (14.5 x 21cm), you can purchase materials from Fine Art and Framing at a reduced rate.  Details supplied in our Aide Memoir (Handout).

These form part of Adam’s ‘transferable skills project’, enabling artists and learners to develop their interdisciplinary skills by combining two of more processes. Compliment your portfolio, build confidence and discover ways of seeing, through practice-based research and experimentation, enabling exploration of your practice in greater detail via various tasks and self-study.

Tutor: Adam Grose

Adam Grose is a painter and printmaker from Cornwall, living and working in Taunton. He studied painting and printmaking at Southampton Institute (BA (Hons) and at Falmouth University (Master of Fine Art: Contemporary Practice). He is a member of the RWA in Bristol.
