There will a preview evening on Friday July 4th 6-9pm . All Art Lovers welcome. Free entry

Artist Statement: Sarah Hargreaves is a Textile Artist living in Somerset. She is currently studying a Masters Degree in Fine Arts at Falmouth University. This exhibition is her final project of her MA.

Originally from Lancashire, Sarah has been drawing and painting all her life; textile art is a fairly new direction, but one she is passionate about.

This body of work, entitled ‘How the Light Gets In’ can be summarised as: ‘An exploration through narrative textiles, of the experiences and perceptions (including self-perception) of women and girls from a feminist perspective. This exhibition represents a journey, from early experiences of trauma, through navigating processing and reframing of key events, to the beginnings of self-acceptance, self-belief and autonomy. All textile work is individually hand-stitched by Sarah

Sarah has followed her own pathway to becoming an artist. She originally planned to study forensic art at University as a teenager but circumstances led her to leaving home earlier than planned and instead completing a degree in Biology. This led to a career as a secondary school science teacher for a decade, then retraining to become a social worker. In 2022 she went back to college to study a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, achieving a Distinction. From there she was offered a place to complete a Masters degree.

Previous exhibitions have been at:

Early 2023: CICCIC, along with her peers on the Diploma.

June 2023: Bridgwater and Taunton College, Final major project show.

May 2024: CICCIC; ‘Baby Loss: An Artists Perspective’. Collaborative project with ‘Towards Tomorrow Together’ as part of her Masters degree.

Sarah’s work can be seen on Instagram: @sarah_jae_hargreaves_art and can be contacted via sarahjaehargreaves@gmail.com
