“Vista de Taunton” Exhibition by Mexican photographer Tomás Castelazo 17th Dec – 28th Feb

Tomás Castelazo began his passion for photography at an early age, discovering the dark room at the age of 14. He was a founding workshop leader of the Photography Workshop of the Autonomous University of Baja California in Ensenada under the direction of Alfonso Cardona.
He was a professor for 20 years at the CETYS University Ensenada Campus where he taught photography in the Graphic Design department as well as Social Sciences subjects in the Engineering and Administration departments. He collaborated as a teacher at the Autonomous University of Baja California, in the faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities and in the faculty of Administration.

This exhibition was inspired by his recent visit to Taunton as part of the World Arts Games, a festival of international arts involving over 37 international artist who came together from all over the world. This exhibition is a unique perspective seen through the eyes and lens of Tomas and his camera and his reaction to the cultural landscape of Taunton.

Tomás Castelazo’s photography is a journey through technique, from the dark room to digital photography, experimenting with processes and materials always as a support for photographic vision, but most importantly, it is a visual journey of everyday life expressed through a refined technique and vision.
Tomás builds his images on aesthetic and graphic principles, such as color, texture, shape, volume, contour, balance, rhythm, perspective, etc., but always looking for the qualitative element that synthesizes the elements in a message of social or human content, influenced by his sociological vision.

He has been a promoter of photography and founder of groups of graphic creators such as Grupo Centro 10, artists from central Mexico and Nómada Colectivo Fotográfico in León, Guanajuato, with a membership of 8,000 photographers.
His work has been published by various media, textbooks and cultural publications in Mexico and abroad.
