Daytime Concert – Nicola Farnon Trio – Sat 14th Sept

Doors 3.15pm. Starts 4pm. Adv ticket £14. OTD ticket £18.

We cannot believe it! We have one of best female jazz vocalist and bassist coming to CICCIC as part of her UK tour, plus a band with a CV any jazz player would die for, and this is one daytime concert you cannot afford to miss.

About This Concert

With Nicola’s trio you get a lot of musical talent that manages to pack a mighty punch for a seemingly small outfit as, although only three, between them they cover vocals, double bass, piano, drums and percussion. Farnon manages to combine her exceptional talents of singing and playing bass whilst leading a trio brimming with versatility and high quality musicianship.

They play an eclectic mixture of popular standards (and a few of Nicola’s own very catchy originals); classy arrangements with a mixture of swing, latin -and the moving, heart rending ballads that people never tire of.

They all aim to enjoy themselves fully with a delightfully original and very inclusively warm (and often witty!) performance. Ultimately these three musicians combine to give a performance that will startle you with it’s genuine love of music and melody, to entertain joyfully – and to swing yer socks off!

About Nicola Farnon Trio

Nicola Farnon – vocals and double bass
Nicola Farnon, widely recognized as one of the UK’s classiest jazz and swing singers and double bassists, has a remarkable musical pedigree, with professional classical musician parents and the late Robert Farnon as her great uncle. Raised on cello and piano, she began singing and playing double bass in her twenties, leading to a 30-year jazz career.

A regular at top venues and festivals, including Glastonbury, Farnon has toured Ukraine, completed four Rural Tours, and frequently appeared on BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Requests and Jazz Line Up. She has performed and recorded with jazz luminaries like Dave Newton, Digby Fairweather, Jim Mullen, and Alan Barnes, and shared stages with Eliane Elias, Courtney Pine, Georgie Fame, and more. On stage, Nicola captivates audiences with her passionate, swinging style, outstanding personality, and charismatic presence.

David Newton – Piano
Dave Newton is one of the UK’s best known and respected jazz musicians. A perennial favourite at festivals and amongst audiences in the UK, in 2019 he won the British Jazz Award for Piano for the 16th time.

Phil Johnson – drums
Phil began honing his drumming skills in The Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra. He has since backed many jazz artists including David Newton, Jim Mullen,Bobby Shew, Alan Barnes, John Etheridge and Barbara Thompson.

Phil is also a much in demand big band player with an impressive gig back catalogue that includes The Squadronnaires, The Memphis Belle, Swing Orchestra, The Nelson Riddle Orchestra UK and The Kings of
Swing Orchestra.

Please note: Online tickets close an hour before the event but there may be tickets on the door. Call 01823 337477.
