Are you under 18 and have a passion for drumming? Or maybe you’re just curious and want to try something new? Whether you’re a seasoned drummer or have just started out, the new youth drumming project, Beats on the Streets, is your chance to unleash your rhythm and be part of something truly exciting.

Beats on the Streets is a dynamic new project bringing together young drummers in the Taunton and Bridgwater areas. Led by the talented young drummer Sean O’Hara, alongside professional drummers Emma Holbrook and Jo Meikle, this project is all about creating vibrant, energetic drumming groups that anyone under 18 can join.

From the thunderous beats of Hip Hop to the infectious rhythms of Samba, rock, and Dohl, you’ll explore a wide range of musical styles and create your own unique sound. This isn’t just about playing music—it’s about forming a community, learning new skills, and having a blast while doing it.

Why Join?

  • Inclusive for All Levels: Whether you’re a drumming newbie or already have some experience, Beats on the Streets welcomes you with open arms.
  • Led by Pros: Learn from Sean O’Hara, Emma Holbrook, and Jo Meikle—experienced drummers who are passionate about sharing their knowledge.
  • Create Your Own Music: Experiment with different drums and percussion to create powerful, original music.
  • Perform Locally: Get the chance to perform at local events like Carnivals and Christmas Light ‘Switch Ons’, showcasing your talent and hard work.
  • Leadership Opportunities: For those looking to take their skills further, there’s a chance to train as a leaders and be part of a showcase band

Taunton Town Councillor Caroline Ellis comments

Sound of the Streets has a brilliant track record in inspiring and empowering young people to create amazing street music. Street drumming is one of the most accessible and joyous ways to express yourself. This project is a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn a new skill, hone their creative talents, build confidence and be a part of an exciting street music movement right here in the county town. Taunton residents: prepare to be wowed!”

The project has been created by Sound of the Streets, a charity that creates street music festivals and education projects and inspires and supports children and young people to make music and is funded by the Make Music Repeat programme run by local based Actiontrack and Taunton Town Council
