‘Metropolis’ Film With Live Musical Accompaniment From ‘Sci Fi Surf’ Band Palooka 5 – Sat 27th Sept

CICCIC is proud to present Fritz Lang’s 1927 German expressionist science-fiction silent classic METROPOLIS (1984 cut – 80mins) offering an unique experience as it will be screened alongside live music accompaniment.

The film highlights many issues relevant in today’s society. These include the class divide, social justice issues around low cost labour and worker safely, de-humanised automated working environments and unrest within the urban population due to industrialisation of the workers. Lang predicts political message about inequality in society and the future of capitalism.

To accompany METROPOLIS ‘sci fi surf’ band Palooka 5 will providing a ‘live musical accompaniment’ to Lang’s classic. A busy working band their usual day job is playing 1960s tinged ‘sci-fi surf music’ – think B52s with a ‘bad vibrations’ modern twist – around the UK and Europe.

Signed to the ‘Spinout Nuggets’ record label, their three LPs and one 45rpm EP have received spins from BBC Radio 6 Music DJs Gideon Coe, Tom Robinson and Deb Grant, including an ‘IN CONCERT’ broadcast on the Gideon Coe evening show! Plus tons of USA airplay on SIRUS XM from Drew Carey and Little Stevens (yes im’ from The Sopranos!) Underground Garage Show.

To support their autumn live dates in 2025 Palooka 5 will be releasing the album ‘MetroKino’ on vinyl LP, CD and download on the ‘Spinout Nuggets’ label. This LP will be on sale at all dates including Sat 27th September 2025 at CICCIC.

To open the evening there will be a screening Georges Méliès 1904 science fiction adventure “Voyage A Traverse L’Impossible” (The Impossible Voyage – 24mins) with a ‘live’ DJ soundtrack from Lee Grimshaw head of the Spinout Nuggets Record label.
