About the Players

Daniel Pogorzelski is experienced tenor and soprano saxophone player. During the day, he works as a professional woodwind instrument technician, but outside of his day job, he is known among his friends for his passion for jazz music. Daniel fell in love with the genre many years ago. While residing in Poland, he took lessons from the internationally renowned Polish saxophonist Piotr Baron and was simultaneously engaged in multiple fusion jazz projects and avant-garde experiments.

Nick Strong – originally a music technology graduate, multi-instrumentalist Nick is most at home on the piano in which he holds the ABRSM Diploma in Classical Piano Performance. Alongside classical piano training, Nick has held a long interest in the study and performance of jazz music. Nick has performed in a variety of professional set-ups with leading musicians from across the music industry. Some highlights include headlining BBC radio 6’s Craig Charles Funk and Soul roadshow with Motown style soul outfit The Earthquakes and holding a variety of residencies in Brighton with funk/jazz outfits including the locally well-known East Brighton Rhythm Section.

Federico Leonori is a double bass player based in Bristol, he is often seen playing with various bands throughout the UK and mainland Europe but started playing the bass guitar in his teens. The accidental discovery of Mingus’s music was his inspiration in starting to play jazz and the double bass. He later enrolled for a Master Degree in Classical Double Bass at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory of his hometown Rome, while pursuing an active performing schedule in Classical Orchestras, Jazz Big bands and small groups. He graduated under the guidance of one of the leading European double bass player, Daniele Roccato, in 2014. During his studies, he deepened his knowledge of the jazz idiom by attending masterclasses and workshops. Federico was also lucky enough to have the chance to study with many jazz legends including John Abercrombie, Uri Caine, Cameron Brown, Eddie Gomez & Dave Liebman.

Jon Whitfield is a drummer and educator from Bolton, Lancashire now living in the South West. After graduating in Jazz at Leeds College of Music Jon worked throughout Europe and the USA and has played and recorded with, amongst others, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes, Peter King and Julia Fordham.
