Abandoning Pre-conceptions: Embrace Alternative Working Methods
Adam Grose’s workshops provide the perfect platform to abandon preconceptions and explore alternative working methods. By taking a step away from the familiar, you can unleash your creativity and open yourself up to innovative and exciting techniques that challenge traditional notions of artmaking.
Over the 12-week period we will explore alternative forms of making through a theme. The theme is generally open, and offers the opportunity to explore alternative way of seeing and making.
The theme: Time
We will explore the nature of ‘Time’ within work, observing and investigating what Time means to you and how you can apply the ‘idea of time’ within creativity and making. We will explore through a variety of methods, including:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Printmaking
- Wire and Clay Sculpture
This open thematic structure encourages individual interpretation and critical reflection on how time influences both the creative process and artistic output. By examining works from artists like Salvador Dali and Yayoi Kusama, students gain insight into varied temporal perspectives within art history, enriching their own practice and expanding their conceptual understanding.
This interdisciplinary engagement not only enhances technical skills, but also cultivates an awareness of time’s fluidity in creative expression. The integration of multi-media challenges conventional boundaries, promoting innovative thinking.
Such exploration aligns with contemporary art approaches that explore process over product, encouraging learners to investigate personal relationships with time as a dynamic force in art-making.
Some of the artists we will explore during these two 6-week blocks will include:
Francis Bacon; Maya Lin; Alexander Calder; Salvador Dali; Mary Cassat; Gerhard Richter; Ithell Colquhoun; Louise Bourgeois; Christian Marclay; Tacita Dean; Bill Viola; Luc Tymans; Rachel Whiteread; Andy Warhol (Films); Hilma af Klint; Yayoi Kusama (Infinity Rooms); Marina Abramovic.
