Printmaking Classes – Autumn term 10th Sept – 10th Dec Thursdays 9.30-12.30pm

Explore print techniques and processes and develop an innovative portfolio of prints. Through various techniques, developed by tutor Adam Grose’s continual experimentation, we will explore various print processes, combining and innovating via the following short course:

Lino, Woodblock & Reduction Printing
Hands-on relief printmaking courses for beginners and developing artists.
Learn professional lino and woodblock techniques in a supportive studio environment and create your own original, exhibition-ready prints.

Two structured six-week courses: Block One: Lino & Woodblock Printmaking  Block Two: Reduction Printmaking (Lino or Wood)

Discover Relief Printmaking
Step into the world of traditional and contemporary printmaking through immersive six week studio courses designed to build confidence, creativity, and technical skill.
Whether you are completely new or developing your practice, you’ll be guided through  every stage from initial design to finished prints using professional relief printmaking methods.
You will explore lino and woodblock processes, multi-layer colour printing, and methods for creating bold, expressive imagery.

Lino & Woodblock Printmaking (6 Weeks)
Paper + Fabric • Single & Multi-Colour Printing
Learn the foundations of relief printmaking using lino and wood. This course covers carving, inking, and printing techniques across both paper and fabric.

You will learn:
Safe carving techniques and tool control
Designing images for print
Single and multi-colour printing
Printing on paper and fabric
Producing small editions of original prints

Perfect for: beginners, creatives, illustrators, textile artists
Materials note: Some tools will be available in the studio. However, it is recommended to have your own lino/woodcut tools. Affordable sets are available from Fine Art & Framing (Taunton) for lino or Jackson’s Art (woodcut).

Reduction Printmaking (6 Weeks)
Lino or Wood • Layered Colour • Edition Printing
Explore the layered and experimental process of reduction printmaking, where a single block is progressively carved away to build complex multi-colour images.

You will learn:
Designing for layered reduction prints
Planning colour sequences (light to dark)
Registration systems for accurate alignment
Progressive carving of a single block
Producing consistent printed editions

Perfect for: artists developing intermediate to advanced printmaking skills

A finished series of original prints
Practical experience with professional printmaking processes
Confidence using carving tools and inks
A developing printmaking portfolio
Stronger understanding of layering, composition, and colour

Tutor: Adam Grose

Adam Grose is a painter and printmaker from Cornwall, living and working in Taunton. He studied painting and printmaking at Southampton Institute (BA (Hons) and at Falmouth University (Master of Fine Art: Contemporary Practice). He is a member of the RWA in Bristol.
