Colourful Friends exhibition: a post-Lockdown explosion of creativity

Tuesday 5th Oct  – Saturday 23rd Oct.  Gallery and Cafe open Tuesday – Saturdays 10am – 4pm (Except Friday afternoons)

Preview night : Wed 6th Oct  – 6-9pm  (All art lovers welcome).

Seven Taunton artists have joined forces to celebrate the lifting of ‘Lockdown’ with an explosion of colour and creativity at CICCIC in Paul Street, Taunton. The exhibition, Colourful Friends, will run from 5th – 23rd October.

Colourful Friends has been a long time coming, having been cancelled and rescheduled several times since it was due to open back in April 2020. The fact that it is finally to take place in October is a testament to the creativity and persistence of this group of contemporary painters and printmakers.

The exhibition, the brainchild of Liz Hood, is a defiant expression of hope in the face of the Covid pandemic, climate change and habitat loss. The seven participating artists speak in colourful harmony and they are worth listening to.

As well as Hood, the magnificent seven is made up of: Jane Brossard, Sara Dudman, Janet Glynn Smith, Lizzie Induni, Rosanne Le-Bertram and Elizabeth Earley.

Hood creates enigmatic contemporary figurative oil paintings; Brossard tests the equilibrium between abstract and figurative imagery; Dudman, RWA Academician, explores our physical and conceptual relationship with the land; Glynn-Smith draws her inspiration from the environment, using a variety of media and techniques; Inundi explores the diverse landscape of Somerset; Lee-Bertram’s work reflects a concern for the planet, and in particular the sea.  She uses colourful etching techniques to create complex abstract images. Earley uses a myriad of processes and materials, often destroying and then rebuilding her images to express her own personal journey.

Liz Hood said: “Art and culture are the glue that holds our society together and in the current climate they are incredibly important. Colourful Friends is a colourful concert of creative voices. The exhibition is well worth a visit, the perfect antidote to those lockdown blues.”
