‘Falling Like Dust or Rain’ Exhibition by the Late Philip Willcocks 2nd – 27th March

Falling like dust or rain –  An exhibition of works from 2015-2021 by the late Philip Willcocks  1946-2021

Gallery opening hours Tues – Sat 10 am-4pm  ( Except Friday pm)

There will be a public view between 10am-2pm on Sunday the 6th of March. All Art lovers welcome.

The exhibition runs from Wednesday the 2nd of March until Sunday the 27th of March 2022.

Philip Willcocks studied Fine Art:Textiles at Newcastle University between 1966-1970. The work for this exhibition combines chance and order in the process of picture making. In the paintings underlying grids and all kinds of devices are incorporated into the work, collage, masks, stencilling combined with the process of layer upon layer of paint falling like dust or rain on to an ever changing surface. Cloud bursts of colour obscure earlier interruptions to the surface which is screened and exposed again to this process as if it is light sensitive paper.

The aim is to cultivate accidental happenings but also to bring these chance events under control to make a picture. A picture not conceived at it’s outset but which seems inevitable as a culmination of the chance process involved in its making.

Profits from the sale of work will be donated to cancer research. Contact thearaeuk@yahoo.co.uk  or arranwillcocks@yahoo.co.uk
