The Pursuit of Gospel is an uplifting and passionate Gospel band whose members share the joy of praising God through their music. The band consists of talented musicians and vocalists who skilfully blend various musical styles such as gospel, contemporary Christian, and soul and jazz to create a unique and captivating sound.
Their infectious energy, harmonious melodies, soul-stirring lyrics, and powerful performances invite listeners to experience the transformative power of love through the power of Gospel. The Pursuit of Gospel believes that worship is not confined to a church building but can be expressed in every aspect of life. Their songs are a testament to the grace, mercy, and faithfulness of God. Come and experience a journey through fresh new arrangements of songs by Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, Israel Houghton, Mary Mary and others.
BIOGRAPHIES
Chris Sampson – since graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music, Chris now works as a freelance cellist, composer and teacher, regularly performing with orchestras, ensembles and choirs around the South-West which has included performing with Craig Ogden, Freddy Kempf on Radio 3 and in venues including the Royal Albert Hall and St Paul’s Cathedral. He directs the ‘Mighty Orchestra’ education initiative, has tutored for the Dartington Summer School and the South-West Music School and has more recently fallen in love with gospel music – the passion and the sound but also its inimitable ability to transcend boundaries and bring people together. He has recently become the Director of Worship at St George’s Church, Wilton. He is one of the founding members of the Pursuit of Gospel.
Daniel Pogorzelski is an experienced tenor and soprano saxophone player. Daniel fell in love with jazz many years ago. While residing in Poland, he took lessons from the renowned Polish saxophonist Piotr Baron and was simultaneously engaged in multiple fusion jazz projects and avant-garde experiments. He leads a few exciting projects with his DPQ Jazz Quartet, performing a blend of straight ahead acoustic jazz influenced by 50s/60s/Blue Note Era as well as Cuban Jazz, Latin, and Fusion music, along with the Cafe Square Quartet/Quintet and tribute to John Coltrane – Love Supreme. He also plays with big bands, spiritual jazz, and Gospel. In addition to his other musical pursuits he loves worshipping God and Gospel music. He is one of the founding members of the Pursuit of Gospel.
Bruce Izzett – Since moving to England from Zimbabwe 18 years ago Bruce has been an active professional musician. He is a jazz pianist, bassist, guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and teacher. He has recorded several albums, has played in many different venues around the UK and beyond, he plays in varied genres but loves Gospel music above them all!
VOCALISTS:
Nelma Vieira – Nelma is one of the founding members and the lead vocalist of the Pursuit of Gospel. Moved to the UK with her family as a teenager, Nelma grew up singing with her sisters in church every Sunday and she kept on singing ever since. Nelma is a Gospel music fan who loves to see how much joy it brings to those who listen. She is currently one of the Worship Leaders at New Creation Church.
Amy Farrar – Amy comes from a musical family and has always been surrounded by music. She sings and plays piano and harp. Although she was pushed to pursue performing from a young age, she always knew that worship was where her heart was and so she went on to university to study Theology, Music and Worship. She is currently the children’s pastor at Taunton Baptist Church.
Odinakachukwu Okereke – Odii grew up in the UK and Nigeria, and returned to the UK about 5 years ago to further her medical training. She is a Doctor and works as a Psychiatry Trainee across Somerset. Aside from her medical career, music has always been a central theme and she has been involved with choirs all her life, the majority of which have been Gospel choirs. She has a passion for prophetic and spontaneous worship and is currently part of the worship team at New Creation Church.
Choir also includes Kalie Bartlett and Titania Coelho Do Rosârio.
